  Nice app. I use it to check vibrations on my astronomy equatorial home made motorised barndoor. It guided me to place the damping masses in the most effective places, thus reducing the vibrations by a factor of 2.5. Great !

  It should be nice to be able to customize the scaling factor of the vertical axis of the graphs because the default scaling of 1g per tick mark when high filter is off is too large, even 0,1g at high filter on is large…

  Hi I am very interested in your app in fact I downloaded it. I am big in to science and work in ICT. I have a question the question might seem rather stupid so please don’t be offended. Is the app actually recording real energy or is it illustration purposes only? No I am not blond just needed to ask as I find it difficult to comprehend the iPhone been able to record this level of energy

  Hi Michael,

  The original values which are given by the device is g (9.80665 m/s2). This is displayed if you turn of the high-pass filter. I looked up a couple of documents about Richter scale and Shindo scale but I could not get how to convert from g to energy (e.g. Magnitude) at the epicenter. If the source is nearby, then it should be just acceleration from another source?

  I’m a geophysicist and love iseismometer. Sadly dropped my iPhone in a tidepool and refuse to pay $200 plus 2 more years of ATT.

  If you would add poles and Zeros for the Laplace transform to convert the tiny accelerations into ground velocties and displacements, every seismologist and building engenieur would be very pleased and grateful. Charge 2 US Dollars and you are done. Regards, Wolf

  Can the pattern of three dimensional acceleration be used to automatically recognise what environment or activity the person is in? Say, if the person is driving, an app could be made to switch to a ‘user-busy’ message to someone who is attempting a voice call.
